This quote means that the more we obey then the more freedom we get. An example of this could be that if you're obedient to your parents, then they'll cut you some slack and let you do things they wouldn't let you do if you are not obedient. If someone isn't obedient then they might be harsher on him or her so they will listen, but if they listen then they might give them a break.
