Last Lecture 2017

“You will go far with CTR.”
-Mr. Haymore

This quote is simply nothing but the truth. We have learned that every successful person only made it that far by being a CTR person.

Class Evaluation

Some of the things that I liked about Mr. Haymores class was the teacher's attitude. Mr. Haymore was always positive and never said or taught us anything bad. Haymore was always positive and taught us new exciting things about typing and some things about programing. I liked how the classroom was set up in equal rows of desks. One other thing that I really enjoyed about this class was that almost everyday that we came into this class we were taught about a new career and learned about them so we can be exposed to many types of careers in the medical field.
Some of the things that I did not like were the students in the class. Many of the students in this class were disrespectful and would interrupt the teacher. Some would also plagiarised and copy and paste their work. Some other thing that i did not like about this class was that Mr. Haymore focused more on choosing the right than actually teaching us how to type and program. The final thing that I didn’t like about the class was that I have suspicions that Mr. Haymore voted for Donald Trump. You can’t choose the right by voting for someone who chooses the wrong.
Some things that I would recommend for the class is to focus more on typing that on quotes. One quote a week is enough. We should also be given more group projects other than working on our own for the whole school year. We should also be given a little more writing assignments other than just our goals journal.
Some of my highlights in this class were that I got to start on my first goals journal. Another highlight was that I’ve improved my typing skills due to this class. I also got to learn about CTR and how it can really change someone's life. Another highlight about my year in this class was that I got to plass an easy class.
In this class I did about 88% of my very best. This is because sometimes I would forget that everyday I would need to read and write in my goals journal. But then again, in class I tried the best I could to write as much as I could about any tropic that Mr. Haymore gave us to talk about. When we would go on our typing tutor is when I really tried my best. This was because I wanted to learn how to type really fast and accurate.
I am not reading my life planning goals journal everyday. At the most I would read my life planning goals journal about 4 times a week for 5 minutes. This might have probably been because i would get bored of that daily routine. I sometimes wouldn’t have anything to write in it so I wouldn’t even bother reading it. Another reason was also because sometimes i would just forget about it or didn’t have time to do it.

I am committed to being a CTr person because over this year I have learned that the only way to become successful in life is by being a CTR character.  When you start to be a CTR character you learn that life gets easier. When you choose the right you seem to get accepted by everyone. When you Choose to be a CTR character you feel good for doing good.

To Be A CTR Person

“THE ULTIMATE CHOICE is to be a CTR Person-to Always CHOOSE THE RIGHT 24/7!!!”
-Señor Haymore

Señor Haymore has been the best teacher at this school out of all of the staff. He is the first person at this school who has talked about doing the right thing all the time. Over the year he has showed us all sorts of quotes that do with choosing the right. He has been a big influence in my life. Choosing the right doesn’t mean to do a good deed and say that you're, choosing the right means turning your life around and be devoted to always doing good and never doing wrong. Choosing the right means not doing any drugs or drinking alcohol. It means to never swear or cheat. Being a CTR character means choosing the right 100% of the time.

Beautiful Character

“If there is beauty in character,
There will be harmony in the home.
If there is harmony in the home,
There will be order in the nation.
If there is order in the nation,
There will be peace in the world.”
-Chinese Proverb

This Chinese Proverb is saying that with the start of someone being a beautiful character, it will eventually lead to world peace. The biggest things start with the people. There can only be peace in this world when we all learn to be a great character. An example of this is in the first 2 lines of the Chinese Proverb. When you choose to become a beautiful character, then you will bring harmony to your home and everyone in your home will learn from your example and your beautiful character will rub off on them.

Without a Rudder

“A man without a goal is like a ship without a rudder.”
-Thomas Carlyle

This quote is truthful on what it says. Everyone has to have a goal in life so they can move forward. When we do not set goals for ourselves we have nothing to do. When we have a goal we have a reason to move forward and progress in life. An example of this can be once you graduate from high school. If you don't plan ahead and have goals set, then you will no more forward.

Memorial Day Weekend

During my 3 day weekend I did some things as going to collect oysters, going to the San Fernando Valley, as well was watching the soccer game. On Saturday i went to the San Fernando Valley with my sister, mom, and niece. We went to go visit my grandma and also so my grandma could see my niece. We were there from about 11am-7pm. The following day which was Sunday we had a barbecue outside and brought a TV out to watch the soccer game, which Chivas won. It was me, my parents, my cousin, and my brother and his wife that were outside watching the game while eating. The next day which was Monday, me, my dad, and my cousin went to Seal Beach which is in Long Beach to go collect oysters. We were there from about 11am-3pm. We collected half a buckets worth.

Forgive

“When a deep injury is done us, we never recover until we forgive.”
-Alan Paton

In this quote we are seeing that to truly recover from an injury we have to learn to forgive. If we stay mad and vengeful our whole life, we will have had never truly recovered from that event. We seen an example of this moments ago when Mr. Haymore showed us a video that had a woman forgiving a man who had killed her daughter in a drunk driving incident. She stated that when she forgave him she felt free as if she had finally recovered from that event. The man also felt better when he was forgiven. He said that it had felt like all that guilt was finally taken off of him. Another example of this can be when a friend says something behind your back. At the moment you might feel like you have to get them back for betraying you will learn that is better to forgive than to get revenge.

Memorial Day

Memorial day is a holiday in the USA in which we remember those who have died in active military service. It use to be on the 30th of May but, now it is recognized on the last Monday of May. Some ways to truly show honor and respect on Memorial Day is by writing a thank you letter to a soldier overseas, visiting a local veterans cemetery, visiting and taking cookies to veteran hospitals, going to or watching a Memorial Day parade on TV, and also by enjoying your freedom and spending time with your family.

Do Right

“Dare to do right.”
-Rex D. Pinegar

Moments ago Mr. Haymore read us a letter from an old friend of his. In the letter he talked about how he was dared to run across the street as a car was approaching and foolishly he accepted the dare and was hit by the car. He then talked about how it is foolish to accept any dare that ask you to do something your parents or teachers would disagree on. He told us, “Dare to do right.” meaning to only accept a dare that ask for something positive. An example of a bad dare can be when a friend dares you to juggle knives. This dare will only bring pain to you because if you mess up, you will be seriously injured. An example of daring to do right is when someone dares you to pass a test at school. This is a great dare because you should already be aiming at passing any test. You should not fall into peer pressure when your friends call you chicken when you don’t accept a dare that is wrong such as, being dared to smoke a cigarette and accepting the dare. Accepting bad dares will make you feel bad, accepting good dares will make you feel great.

Brooke

We just finished watching a video about a girl named Brooke. She is 6 feet tall and she is a CTR person. She lives in Mexico and even though she comes from somewhere else where the culture and religion is different, she still manages to fit in and be a CTR role model. All of her friends say shes a CTR person ans she is always trying to make her friends CTR people also. She stands up for herself even if shes the only one who dressage with something or someone. She never drinks or falls a victim to peer pressure.

Stand Alone

“Dare to stand alone.”
-Thomas S. Monson
This quote here by Thomas S. Monson is a quote that we should really admire. What he is trying to say is that is a group of people you are with start to choose the wrong, it’s better to walk away and stand alone rather than choosing the wrong with them. In life, it is better to be alone doing the right other than choosing the wrong with a crowd.

Los Angeles Riots 1992

Los Angeles 1992
On March 3, 1991, a man by the name of Rodney King was brutally  beaten by the LAPD which sparked a major problem in the African-American community. After a year of the incident the 4 LAPD officers were in a major court case in Simi Valley which was a predominantly a white community. Everyone including the Mayor of Los Angeles at the time expected the 4 officers to be found guilty for their actions but, they were acquitted 3 of the 4 for their actions. This spark what is one of the biggest riots in the history of the US. That night that the trial took place in February 29, 1992 there was a 4-day long riot that took place in South LA. The riots destroyed over 1,000 building, injured 2,500 people, and killed 58. Over 16,000 people were arrested. The riots caused over $1 billion in damage.
One of the first places where people started to riot in was Florence and Normandie, which is in South-Central Los Angeles. Rioters would throw beer cans at motorist which turned into people getting dragged out of their vehicles and being beaten on the streets. One of these victims was Reginald Denny who was pulled out of his vehicle and nearly beaten to death. At this time mayor Tom Bradley called a state of emergency for how out of control the city was at the time. The city try to combat these harsh times by calling in the national guard, who sent 2,000 troops, to protect the city from its citizens. A curfew was also set in the city. The sell of ammunition and gasoline, except to automobiles, was also prohibited. Bus service was canceled city wide. Mail delivery was halt in South Los Angeles, school was canceled, professional basketball games were canceled, many employers also told their workers to stay home.
Many of the places targeted were Korean businesses due to the killing of unarmed 15 year old Latasha Harlins who was killed over some orange juice by a Korean shop owner who was not not sent to jail for her actions. Many of the Korean shop owners armed himself with firearms to try to defend their businesses from the rioters.

If...Then

“If I’ve got correct goals, and if I keep pursuing them the best way I know how, everything else falls into line. If  I do the right thing right, I’m going to succeed.”
-Dan Dierdorf

This quote said by a former NFL player is truthful. What he is saying is that when you do the right thing then everything will turn out the way it’s suppose to in the correct manner. An example of this can be when you study for a test. You will do the best you can to pass it and at the end, all the hard work you put in will pay off.

Phillip Riggs' Four Success Tips

  1. Work Hard.
  2. Follow your passions. Do things you are interested in doing.
  3. Don’t chase after money.
  4. Serve others. Do good things for others, and good things will come to you.
-Phillips Riggs
These four tips given by the 2016 Grammy award winner are really useful, especially since they are given by someone successful. His 4 tips can be easily followed and easily learned. The first one is just to work hard, which we could all do if we are not lazy. The second tip is to do something you are interested in. This can be a passion you have. The third tip is to not just do something for money. The fourth and final tip that Phillips Riggs gave us was to treat others the way you would want to be treated. When you do good things, good things will happen to you.

The Right Thing

“In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing.”
-Theodore Roosevelt
This quote is outstanding by the fact that it is about choosing the right. The former president of the United States, Theodore roosevelt says that it is always the time to do the right thing. An example of this can be when you see someone drop a dollar on the floor accidentally not even knowing. The best thing to do, which would be the right thing to do, is to pick it up and give it back to them. The example that we were shown moments ago in class was when a Wal-Mart employee found an envelope with $20,000 and returned it to its rightful owner without even thinking about keeping the money for himself.

Nothing

“Nothing is ever gained in doing what’s wrong.”
-Wilford Woodruff
This quote is truthful in every way possible. Nothing is EVER gained when you do the wrong thing. You will always lose when you do the wrong thing. Doing the wrong thing will end you up in jail. Doing the right thing on the other hand, will bring you joy and make you a better character which is the only thing any of us really have. An example of this can be if you cheat on a test. When you cheat you can easily get caught in the process. If that is the not the case then you will have to back up you're cheating with even more cheating and lies which will eventually all crash back to you and destroy your character.

Do the right thing at the right time

“It’s A GREAT MOMENT when someone has character to step up and do the right thing at the right time.”
-Pam Knox

This quote by Pam Knox is a truthful statement. It is always the right time to do the right thing. An example of this is when you see someone drop their wallet. You must choose the right and be the one to return to them their wallet. You should follow Pam's advice and choose the right. It doesn’t matter what you lose when you do the right thing because, you will become a better character, which is more important than anything.

Word of Honor

“I have been asked what I mean by ‘word of honor.’ I will tell you: Place me behind prison walls-walls of stone ever so high, ever so thick, reaching ever so far into the ground-there is a possibility that in some way or another I might be able to escape; but stand me on the floor and draw a chalk line around me and have me give my word of honor never to cross it. Can I get out of that circle? No, never! I’d die first.”
-Karl G. Maeser
This quote is by far the best quote I have seen in this class. Karl G Maeser is such a remarkable man just by saying this quote. When a person gives their word to someone it means that they will do whatever they said they were going to do no matter what. An example of this can be when you tell your parents that you will pass your test that is coming up. When you give anyone your word, you must keep to it. So the example is that you will do anything to pass the test.

10 Native-American Commands

  1. Treat the Earth and all that dwells therein with respect
  2. Reman close to the Great Spirit
  3. Show great respect to your fellow beings
  4. Work together for the benefit of all mankind
  5. Give assistance and kindness whenever needed
  6. Do what you know to be right
  7. Look after the well-being of mind and body
  8. Dedicate a share of your efforts to the greater good
  9. Be truthful and honest at all time
  10. Take full responsibility for your actions
There are 10 Native-American commandments like there are 10 in the Bible. Many of the Native-Americans commandments have to do with respecting and helping others. These 10 commandments seem to be really inspiring and I believe we should all follow them nowadays. The reasoning behind this is because they all seem as if that you follow them, life would be better. An example of this can be when you are at the store and see someone drop their wallet without realizing it. Many people might choose to take it without thinking twice. But, if these are some of the commandments we live by, we might not feel so right about taking it. Another example on why living by these commandments would be good is because we wouldn't be polluting the world so much. Many people care about the Earth and want to help fight against pollution. But, we live in a time of age where pollution isn't something we could stop so easily. There are many factories that pollute a lot to give us things we want like cars and phones and electricity. But, if we lived by these rules we would be more focused on finding clean ways on how to make electricity.

A Promise

“A promise must never be broken.”
-Alexander Hamilton

When you say that you are going to say something you must do it. When you say that you're going to do something, whether or not you said promise, it’s still a promise. When you break a promise, you are breaking your word. You will feel disappointed if a friend was to break a promise so you shouldn’t break your promises either. An example of this can be when your friend promises that they will not spread your secret. If they were to break their promise and tell everyone about it, you will definitely be disappointed in your friend. If you don’t like it when people break promises they make with you then you should also keep your promises and be loyal to your word.

Goodness

“Goodness is the only investment that never fails.”
-Henry David Thoreau

This quote means that you can invest all of your goodness and it will not fail on you. There are lots of ways you can invest in something. You can invest with time and money, but when you invest with these 2, you will not get them back. It is also never guaranteed that the investment will work out in your favor. But when you invest with goodness, you are not loosing anything. In fact, you are more likely to succeed if you invest with your goodness.

They're Right

“My basic principle is that you don’t make decisions because they are easy; you don’t make them because they are cheap; you don’t make them because they’re popular; you make them because they’re right.”
-Theodore hesburgh

This quote said by the former president of Notre Dame in truthful in the sense on how we should make our decisions. Nowadays everyone is just doing what their friends are doing, regardless if it's right or wrong. This is never the right way to make a choice. We should always make our decisions based on what is right. An example of this can be when your friends are doing something bad and invite you to join in. You should make the right choice and not follow in their path. Another thing the quote is stating is that we should not make choices based on what everyone else is choosing. We should make the right choice 100% of the time because at the end of the day, that bad decision you make will come back to get you.
